Buying a Sport
Knee Brace
Knee problems are very common in those who are involved
in sports and activity. The knee is basically a hinge, with many
different parts that work together to make the knee function pain free and in a healthy manner. If even one of the components of the knee is not working right it can cause
pain and instability. Unfortunately this pain is something that the
individual has to cope with, but it doesn’t have to keep you from doing the activities that you love!
A sport knee brace can help you get back on your feet
and enjoying the sports and activities that you want to participate in. If you have been to the doctor and you have a diagnosis or have just found
that you have an unstable knee, a sport knee brace may be just what you need. If you haven’t been to the doctor and you’ve had pain for more than 72 hours
you need to see a doctor before you use a sport knee brace.
When you begin shopping for your sport knee brace you
will find that there are a couple different types for you to choose from. The most common type is the soft type that is made of neoprene. These are usually easy to get on and off and either pull on or are held in
place by Velcro. These can be very small to just support a specific
part of the knee or they can be larger, enveloping the knee area.
If this type of sport knee brace does not offer the support that you need, you may want to try another
type.
Another type of sport knee brace is those that are made
of neoprene but then supported by steel rods. These have hinges in
them that will allow you to move with ease when you are participating in a sport or activity, but you’ll still
get the support that you need from the brace. These are usually a
bit heavier and more burdensome, but when you want to be active and you need more support than the more flexible
sport knee brace can offer, this is the best way to go.
Try on both types of braces and see which one appeals
to you most. You may find that the soft sided neoprene braces are
great for every day activities like walking or even riding your bike while hiking or running require the support
of a hinged sport knee brace. Shop around and don’t be afraid to
try many different options to see which ones appeals to you the most.
